photo of the day: random act of sweetness

Dr. Brady’s dentist office in Dupont Circle has lured in sweetgreen associates one by one.  Besides painless root canals, we love that they practice “Vegan Mondays” for lunch.  Last week we surprise-catered Vegan Monday with our sabzi and chic p salads and wraps.  They loved it!

dc meat free week

This week is no ordinary week in DC.  Today kicks off DC Meat-Free Week where you have a full 7 days of vegetarian and vegan heaven including great food specials and events.  Sweetflow mobile is participating too! Were giving herbivores $1 off meat-less salads and wraps.  Look for our truck and fulfill your veggie fantasy with the chic p, guac greens with black beans & corn (instead of chicken), and the seasonal February salad with tofu.

sustainabites: vegans, unite!

November may be best known as the month of ceremonious gorging of turkey, gravy, and buttery mashed potatoes, but it’s also marks World Vegan Month aka meatless November. Why vegetables you ask? A vegan diet leaves a gentler environmental footprint, and is also a super healthy lifestyle choice, not that I’m biased or anything. As the token office vegan, I’m proud to announce that a few, brave sweetgreen souls have accepted the challenge to eat vegan for the month. Give in to the power of your inner vegan and try it for the last few days this month! Vegetables are the new meat! And even if you can’t completely commit to curbing the carne, there are some great vegan options out there to tickle your taste buds that are definitely worth trying. I’d start out with soup of the week’s vegan roasted vegetable soup. Hearty, sexy, vegan… yum!

dc vegfest recap

On Saturday an unassuming corner of GW was packed with vender tents and lines of hungry vegetarians for the DC VegFest.  The picture-perfect vegan pastries and the hemp burger tents attracted exceptional crowds.  I was curious about the hemp burgers, and as I got closer, I noticed the hype wasn’t about the burger; a man was cracking large green coconuts with a 2-foot machete.  Fresh coconut water is really refreshing, plus it looks pretty cool drinking out of a huge coconut.  Other highlights included a vegan bodybuilder, cooking demonstrations, and lots of yummy samples.  I’m already looking forward to next year’s festival!

september salad

September-Salad

This month’s seasonal salad consists of baby spinach with apples, roasted tofu, spicy quinoa, sugar snap peas, fresh cilantro and sweetgreen’s lime cilantro jalapeno vinaigrette.

This month, we are excited to dedicate our seasonal salad to all vegans out there! Inspired by some of our vegan associates on the sweetgreen team, like Brittany from SG Bethesda, we tried to pack lots of protein and flavor into this salad. The spicy quinoa is an important component with its high protein content and spicy kick that adds a nice amount of heat to the salad. The fresh cilantro also plays a great part by adding that fresh herb flavor throughout.

A great resource for all things Vegan is www.vegdc.com. Check it out!
