music friday: the sounds of 2011

2011 is shaping up to be an unbelievable year for music. Here is some news were really excited to see play out in the next year:

Keep a look out for sweetlife sessions in 2011. These in store concerts are a great way to see some amazing artists in an intimate setting while enjoying some tasty sweetgreen salads and yogurt.

We’re really excited about Danger Mouse and Broken Bells producer Brian Burton’s newest project Rome. It’s a collaboration with composer Daniele Luppi and is inspired by 60s Italian film soundtracks. If that doesn’t sound amazing enough already the album will also feature Norah Jones and Jack White! The album is set to drop some time this year.

The Flaming Lips plan to take an innovative approach to releasing their new album in 2011. Instead of releasing all the tracks at the same time, the band plans on releasing one song per month. They view this as a less daunting and more exciting approach to releasing music and we certainly look forward to hearing The Flaming Lips’ creativity in 2011.

Best Coast and Wavves are scheduled to head out on a joint tour later this month. Masters in the Lo-fi scene, these bands are making a stop at the 9:30 club in DC on January 31.

March 2011 has been announced as the release date for the strokes’ long awaited new album. Five years since their most recent album “First Impression of Earth”, this new album is said to feature the band’s classic sound. A world tour is set to follow the release although no dates have been announced yet.
