sweetgreen Tours the Stony Field Yogurt Plant

This past Friday the sweetgreen team had the opportunity to tour the facilities of Stonyfield Yogurt in Londonderry, New Hampshire. The guys got fitted out in all the gear and were very impressed with the operation. In fact, it is Stonyfield Yogurt that is a big part of the Sweetflow recipe. The founder of Stonyfield, Gary Hirshberg, serves as a big inspiration for all of us here and we would like to thank him for letting us visit. If you get a chance check out Gary’s book, Stirring It Up: How to Make Money and Save the World, which explains the company’s sustainability focused philosophy that led to Stonyfield’s success. To celebrate Sweetgreen’s first day open in Bethesda, we decided to donate our proceeds from lunch to our new friends at BETHESDA GREEN.  Since sweetgreen is a Green Certified Restaurant by the GRA, we are excited about partnering with Bethesda Green on many cool projects! Sweetgreen Bethesda Opens WEDNESDAY!

The Sweetgreen Team is proud to announce the Grand Opening of Sweetgreen Bethesda tomorrow– Wednesday, April 29th! The new restaurant is located at 4831 Bethesda Ave. on Bethesda Row. We’ve upgraded a bit with 1800 sf and seating for 40….Don’t worry though, we’re still the same Sweetgreen.

This location has many of the same features as our other 2 locations and some new additions, including: focus on local and organic produce, reclaimed hickory from a barn in VA, a 30-foot long reclaimed bowling alley communal tables, super-stylish outdoor seating, and powered by wind energy.  So come on out to Bethesda and check it out!

you may know about the reclaimed hickory that we use as an integral part of the sweetgreen design – check out the tables and benches that will be used for our indoor seating at the sweetgreen locations in dupont circle and bethesda, md:

our tables and benches are being made by counterevolution, a new york company that makes furniture using wood from reclaimed bowling alleys

counterevolution is making long, communal-style tables for us with varying sizes of benches and stools – the furniture is beautiful and the indoor seating will be a great addition to our new locations

Sweetgreen is spreading its roots to new soil.

With business strong a year after opening their doors, restaurant owners and Georgetown graduates Nick Jammet (MSB ’07), Jonathan Neman (MSB ’07) and Nathaniel Ru (MSB ’07) have decided to branch out from their M Street location to two new locations: One store will open in Dupont Circle before the end of the year, and the second will open in Bethesda, Md., in early 2009.

Since its grand opening in August 2007, Sweetgreen has seen consistent and unexpected profit margins over the course of its first year in business, Jammet said.

if this is the first you’ve heard of it, we are planning a location in Bethesda! get excited.
