cut your own xmas tree

Growing up in New Hampshire, my childhood memories involve sledding, playing in feet upon feet of snow, and traveling to a local farm to cut down a Christmas tree with my family.  Even though I have moved to DC, we still cut down a tree every year on Thanksgiving weekend.  After another successful trip to the farm this year, I was motivated to take my friends to cut a Christmas tree for my home in DC as well.  I had been to Butler’s Orchard in Germantown, MD for pumpkin picking with my roommates, so we decided to give it a shot for our tree.

Butler’s not only had pre-cut trees ready for the less adventurous, but also two large fields offering a healthy selection of pines and douglas firs.  The weather was beautiful and we found the perfect douglas fir for our house.  Afterwards, we indulged in the free hot cider, free hot cocoa and the other treats available at the country store (I’d recommend the gingerbread cookies!)

There’s nothing like the smell of a fresh cut Christmas tree! It definitely puts me in the holiday spirit!
